Painting by Mahatmani
Life
is not a problem to be solved.
What
does it take to see that?
What
does it take to see the Sunlight with open eyes?
What
does it take to experience the vastness of a wide beach in the infinite
boundlessness of the love in your heart?
What
does it take to just sit in front of a painting, which is created from
spontaneous emptiness, and to be touched in the heart?
What
does it take to listen to the sound of a flute without meaning, a flute played
without investment, just because the breath of life is lively by nature and
carries creation within itself?
Parting
is intrinsic to creation and that parting is equal to freedom. That parting
leaves one free from collecting, leaves one free from carrying along, and leaves
one free from being conformed to models. Creation does not allow any fixation,
and does not allow being forced into dogmas. All of creation changes in time and
will disappear. This you can observe common-sensically all around, inside and
outside, just by sober observation.
Why
are we so afraid of that? We are afraid because we have an idea of “me” as
something permanent, being the center of the universe. It is not difficult, when
you are on the beach looking over the vastness of the ocean, to see that you can
possibly not be the center of the universe. It is not difficult to
realize that you, an infinitesimal being, can be only the witness to a gigantic
manifestation, which includes the mystery itself, and includes you. It makes the
eyes look in awe and wonder, humble wonder, experiencing purely and simply the
coming and going of images.
In
meditation this is called “witnessing”: uninvolved observing of life’s
breath, without expectation for any outcome, any result.
It
is impossible to fix something really, except an idea. I say idea. Can you
really fix an idea? Is there any substantiality in an idea? Or is it something
that needs to be thought over and over because otherwise it would be
gone…………….before you can grasp it?
An
idea is completely without substance, does not have any root and has no
location.
With
these ideas, we are capable of creating a world in our imagination, which looks
like we are living between four basalt walls… We make (false) notions that
what we cling to provides security, and it appears to be our world and we say it
is true. But if there is any truth in
it, we all should live in the same world. When something is true, it should be
true at all times, in all things, for everyone. If you take a sincere look, you
will see that the emotions coming from these ideas change in your experience
from moment to moment. Sometimes you feel like this… then you change your mind
and you feel completely different. So it is constantly changing. What makes that
factor? On what does it depend? The Sun rises, the Sun sets, and you are going
from a well-balanced sane thinking person into an emotional state. Sometimes you
have the feeling that you are bluntly living in hell… and it seems true… and
whoops... out you are.
Everyone
has his or her own experience and his or her private concepts, and that is what
we project upon one another and how we get disappointed or happily contented.
Most of the time we are not even aware of our expectations; why disappointment
is caused or why we feel suddenly so happy. It is utterly fictitious and
non-existent. You cannot get out of these entanglements on a conceptual level.
On this level we go around in circles endlessly. See how the thinking-box
functions…. our so-called reality is like imagination on an empty screen. Dare
to make it simple. Dare to make it meaningless, unimportant. Do you think, when
you are looking into the most remote corners of the universe, that “your”
life is of special importance and that it is possible to have control whatsoever
and that “your” opinions matter?
To
pierce through the meaninglessness of existence we need to be steady and strong.
Why? Because the “personal mind”, the ego-sense, is made crazy by the idea
of losing all of the imaginary stability when it is challenged to look through
fixed concepts and to have to give up all of the supposed realities. The
“I-me-mine" thought is incapable of handling this and will resist.
And
still…. when we are fed-up to the brim with ourselves, exhausted enough by
going around in circles, we get ready to knock at the door of our self-installed
prison and say: “I am so tired, it cannot continue like this, show me the way
out!” When the grip is getting too tight on all sides, we are compelled to
turn inward. This is also the moment that we are ready to meet, by grace, our
Master. This can be the turning point from upside-down to right-side-up. This is
why life-experiences have to break our heart. (the heart cannot break really;
only our concepts are falling apart.) We are getting ready to detach from ideas
of how we want things to happen and how we think it should be. The beauty of
this is: when the heart is broken, God can come in… all pervading love,
meaningless in itself. Love is love and does not know any condition. We cut
through the error of being able to have control over anything. Now we are ready
to spread our arms widely and dance on the beach the authentic dance of life. I
am… alive! I am alive and it does not make any particular sense. This
non-sense is freedom from conditioning; just experiencing life without opinion
or comment. That implies maturity, ripening… growing up instead of growing
old. Non-sense of life is the sense of life.
Freedom from any meaning is a doorway to Waking Up, coming to see the highest,
the deepest in wisdom, the perfection that you already are, expressed in
spontaneous beauty.
We
tend to search outside ourselves, or we delay…. ”not now, tomorrow!” Or we
want it to be complicated, and to solve our problems by extensive processing.
Because our thinking-box seems to think in such an “en-veloped” manner, we
think that ‘de-velopment’ must be complicated too. No, this is a mistake.
Wherever you go… here it is. Whenever in time… here it is; in the silence of
lives it breathes itself, eternally.
From
perfect emptiness and perfect silence, creation appears in an endless
manifestation, in an infinite coming and going. And when it appears… let it
be… let it be natural.
Breathing
in-breathing out, breathing in-breathing out, until you see that there is nobody
breathing in reality and all is unconditionally perfect as it is. There is
nowhere to go really. All experiences arise out of None, change constantly and
disappear into None… in boundless silence.
